2019 was another massive half year for edtech with $3.5 billion in VC accelerating education innovation around the world. That includes 90 deals worth more than $5 million.

That’s the news from Tim Doner, VP of Business Development at FluentWorlds, a startup that created an online platform and two apps to teach English. See related story here.

Doner is a Harvard grad who speaks 23 languages.

He’s currently in Colombia. In the past three days, he and his team have met with six public and private educational institutions. One of those meetings resulted in a contract.

FluentWorlds signed a contract with UniRemington (18,000 students) to begin selling its apps this month.

Other universities visited include ITM University (22,000 students) and UniMinuto (126,000 students) – which could yield millions of dollars in recurring annual revenue for FluentWorlds.

The company is still in the midst of its Title III equity crowdfunding campaign. See more on that here.
